Context
BBC Media Action uses various forms of media and communications to tackle poverty and contribute to long-term change in some of the world’s poorest places. To achieve this, we partner with civil society, local media and governments to:
  • Produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences;
  • Strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.

Duration: 1 Year Fixed Term, with possibility of extension

Job Purpose: This individual will play an active role in assisting and advising the team at the National Employment Agency (NEA) to ensure that they have the appropriate provision of resources and skills to meet programme needs in the most efficient and cost effective way. They will conduct an organizational needs assessment concentrating on production skills and work together with NEA, BBC Media Action in the implementation of the findings of the needs assessment.  They will ensure that the organization and skill base of NEA is continually developed to anticipate and exploit new media and production techniques. They will work at least three days of the week at NEA supporting the day to day running of the organization. The remainder 2 days will be spent at the BBC Media Action offices.

Duties + Requirements
Media Advisor

Duties
  • To assist in the creation of an organization needs assessment stressing production needs within an organization;
  • To analyse the findings of said assessment and create a training program in conjunction with NEA and in accordance with NEA work activities;
  • To liaison with the BBC offices in London in identifying appropriate trainers to fulfil the training program;
  • To deliver effective advice helping to ensure a seamless delivery of NEA media program, liaising closely with Adviser to National Employment Agency, obtaining regular feedback on performance levels and seeking to consistently improve the quality of the program;
  • To provide authoritative advice on media production, technology and working practices within the scope of project and to assist in meeting short and long term objectives;
  • Responsible for ensuring that NEA staffs have their training and development needs assessed on a regular basis (at least quarterly) and that, within the scope of the program, these needs are met;
  • Ensure that all NEA staff understands the objective and importance of partnership between the BBC Media Action and the National Employment Agency helping to foster and create a positive working environment and creating a climate in which staff feel committed to gain new skills through training or on-the-job experiences;
  • To provide regular verbal/written reports to BBC Media Action, NEA and donors as required;
  • To represent NEA and BBC Media Action as required.
Requirements
  • Extensive operational experience in film production and good knowledge of multimedia production systems;
  • Ability to work both on their own and in a team;
  • Ability to work autonomously with little day-to day supervision, creating their own schedules and workplans;
  • Proven experience of leading teams in periods of complex change;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills the ability to contribute to departmental strategy with up-to-date knowledge of the strategy and direction being taken by output areas;
  • Able to demonstrate editorial awareness and an understanding of program/institution’s objectives.
